Typically open-minded, adventurous people from all walks of life, host families usually have varied reasons for participating in this amazing cultural exchange opportunity. Some have traveled extensively; others simply love foreign language, culture, and international topics, while still others see the hosting experience as one that will expose their children to international people, ideas, and language.
Many of our families both send their kids abroad and host. Hosting and being hosted is an enriching opportunity for both the student and the family!

There’s certainly no magic formula, but usually the best hosting experiences occur when the host family has children. Families with grown children away in college also really enjoy the hosting experience. However, we encourage families with no children to host as well; what’s most important is that you are kid friendly!
Although we don’t organise a formal exchange program, our host family children are often invited by their American guest student back to the US the following summer. Sometimes this isn’t possible for a variety of reasons. In this case, ECI guarantees to arrange a free one week Immersion (you would just pay the airfare) or a reduction on one of our group programs, as a ‘Thank you’ to our fantastic families.
ECI’s Host Families come from both the city and its close villages and may be working parents who work outside of the home, self-employed, stay-at-home, or retired parents. Some of the cities in which our students stay are: Spain – Salamanca, San Sebastián, Nerja, Santander, Sevilla, Almería, Almerimar, San Lorenzo de El Escorial; France – Lyon, Aix-en-Provence, Gap, Hyères.

In this meeting, the ECI rep will provide you with more detailed information, discuss logistics of the ECI program, answer any questions you may have, and show you student applications. You may even be able to select your host student at this time!
